Last weekend, it was a great pleasure to welcome more than 70 of our alumni back to Port Regis for a memorable afternoon of cricket, croquet and cherished reunions on the North Lawn.
Old Port Regians gathered from across the generations to enjoy a relaxed and joyful occasion, whether taking part in the cricket match, trying their hand at croquet, or simply spending time catching up with old friends and revisiting fond memories of school life.
At the heart of the afternoon was a closely contested cricket match between our OPR team and the ever-spirited Portrejects team - made up of staff, current and former parents, and OPRs. While the weather may have been a little chilly, the rain thankfully held off, allowing players to make the most of our spectacular 1st XI pitch in beautiful surroundings.
Led by captain Barney Lewis, the OPR side secured a narrow victory, pipping the Portrejects at the post in what proved to be an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable match. One of the loveliest sights of the day was seeing sons and fathers lining up on opposing teams - a wonderful reminder of the enduring Port Regis connection across generations.
Away from the cricket field, there was plenty more to enjoy. Alumni gathered in the Dining Hall to browse a fascinating collection of Port Regis memorabilia, sparking stories, laughter and much reminiscing. Others embraced the friendly competition on the croquet lawn or took the opportunity to enjoy tours of the school, revisiting familiar corners and seeing how Port Regis continues to evolve while holding fast to its traditions.
No Port Regis gathering would be complete without a famously delicious match tea, and guests were delighted to share refreshments together while exchanging stories old and new.
Most importantly, the afternoon was a celebration of community. Friendships were rekindled, memories revisited and we were reminded of the special bond that continues to unite Old Port Regians long after their school days have ended.
It was a truly fabulous occasion and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a success. We cannot wait to welcome our OPR community back to Port Regis again soon.
