Expat FamiliesSUB MENU
Port Regis has a long association with expat families who choose the School for its high standard of pastoral care and boarding provision. The needs of a child with parents living in another country are unique and our staff are well versed in creating a happy, home-from-home environment for children whose parents live abroad.
In each of our four boarding houses we have highly talented and committed houseparents, assistant houseparents and gap year staff, all of whom are focused on the very highest standards of care. We make sure that, when the academic day is done, the children spend time with their friends, relax and have fun.
Every weekend is worth staying in for, with regular themed events, discos, games, competitions, outings and opportunities to do something different. We take our weekends very seriously and like to keep the children busy with lots of fun things to do. Unlike most boarding prep schools, we never close at weekends or exeats, something that our overseas parents in particular appreciate.
Ease of keeping in touch is also very important to expat families. The days when a boarding pupil’s contact with home consisted of a Friday evening telephone call are long gone. Now children have the opportunity to be in regular touch, and at Port Regis we do all we can to accommodate the particular needs of overseas parents. Skype or phone calls home can be made at times convenient for parents who may be in different time zones. One Hong Kong-based pupil, for example, calls her parents at lunchtime.
Despite the distance, ex-pat parents are often far from being absent and we appreciate that their schedules may not always coincide with school holidays and weekends. If they’re coming through London or visiting the UK we’re very happy for them to visit. We even have two cottages in the school grounds where they can stay if they wish.
Arranging travel home for the holidays is also an area we are very experienced in. Located within 90 minutes of Heathrow and Gatwick, we have a member of staff who co-ordinates the transport to take children to and from the airport, organises staff to accompany them to passport control if they are travelling unaccompanied, as well as making sure they have their passport with them!
“I cannot recommend more highly both the academic, pastoral and environmental benefits of joining a down-to-earth and most supportive community in the middle of the gorgeous Dorset countryside.”
