Speech Day 2019

Whole School

Speech Day began with a wonderful exhibition of pupils’ art, ceramics, DT and woodwork. Following the exhibition there was a concert in FMS featuring a wealth of soloists as we said goodbye to our leaving musicians. After the concert there was a stunning gym display, with over 50 gymnasts taking part on the floor, beam and rings. Parents and children then had time to enjoy their picnic lunches before heading to Queen’s for speeches, by the Chairman of Governors and the Headmaster, and the handing out of the year’s prizes.

We were delighted to welcome as our guest speaker Debra Searle MVO, MBE. Debra is a professional adventurer and motivational speaker. She hit the headlines when she set out to row across the Atlantic with her husband but was forced to continue alone when disaster struck. Despite being a novice rower she made it, rowing 3,000 miles from Tenerife to Barbados, battling 30 foot waves, sharks and Force 8 squalls. She has also launched two companies, won World Championship medals for Great Britain, presented over 40 programmes for the BBC, had two books published, become the youngest ever trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and is the founder of the Business Network Forum. A truly inspirational woman, Debra gave a highly entertaining speech and left us with a wonderful message – every day we can choose our attitude.

It was a superl day which rounded off the School year perfectly before everyone headed off to enjoy the Summer holidays.
