The School

Port Regis aims to provide boys and girls of 3-13 with the best possible education. The School is set in 150 acres of beautiful Dorset parkland and has superb, state-of-the-art educational facilities and a very special atmosphere. The facilities include a purpose-built science, art and technology centre, a specialist teaching block, a sports complex, which serves as a National Centre for Junior Gymnastics, a 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, an astroturf hockey pitch, a nine-hole golf course, 13 tennis courts, glass-backed squash courts and a multi-purpose indoor hall. Two splendid senior boarding houses and the newly refurbished main building provide exceptionally comfortable accommodation for the children and staff. The recently completed dining hall and kitchens have enhanced the pleasure of mealtimes and we are all enjoying the wonderful facility provided by the new Music School which opened in June 2003. In September 2008 we opened the JM Upward Academic Centre, which accommodates 14 classrooms for the English, MFL, Classics, History and Geography departments.

More important than the facilities, however, is the academic and pastoral care given to each pupil. The school is the children’s home-from-home, and every staff member is responsible for making Port Regis feel like a home. Each pupil has a personal tutor, as well as a form-master/mistress and subject teachers. Additional care is provided in the evenings by the staff resident in the main building and senior boys’ and girls’ houses.

The core of the educational process is, of course, the classroom lesson. Staff are expected to maintain a very high standard of teaching and are provided with every support from the Headmaster, Deputy Head, Academic Deputy and Assistant Director of Studies, who is also the Head of Assessment, and the Senior Mistress. NQTs enjoy an exceptionally thorough and attentive Induction Programme.

Pupils are prepared for the Common Entrance Exams and Senior Independent School scholarships. They go on to study at leading public schools, such as Marlborough, Bryanston, Sherborne, Eton, Wycombe Abbey and Winchester, and 85 awards have been won by our pupils in the past 3 years. Port Regis is an educational community where the staff are highly motivated, fully involved in school life and extremely supportive of one another.
