The new term is now well under way, and despite the chilly weather spirits are high as we get stuck into all that the term has to offer!
Inspection
Towards the end of last term we underwent the all-searching ISI whole-school inspection, and the final report has just been published. It is really outstanding, including such judgments as:
- Pupils receive an exceptional education both inside and outside the classroom
- Pupils show enormous enjoyment for their work
- Exemplary behaviour is the norm both in and out of the classroom
- The quality of pastoral care and of the attention given to pupils’ welfare, health and safety is outstanding
- Pupils at all ages and stages say that bullying is not an issue.
- The quality of boarding is outstanding
- Outstanding moral awareness
- Throughout the school, pupils demonstrate outstanding social skills.
- Responses to the parent questionnaires show just how highly the parents regard the school in every respect.
- The quality of leadership and management is outstanding
- Pupils are extremely considerate
- Pupils take responsibility for the well-being and happiness of those around them

We also continue to take encouragement from the wonderful report we received after our last OFSTED boarding and pastoral inspection.
The Social Services inspectors once again visited for several days interviewing children and
staff and inspecting policies and procedures. Questionnaires were conducted with all the boarding children and their parents, and the results analysed and documented. It was tremendously encouraging then to receive a report which announced Port Regis to be “Outstanding” in every single category.
The Headmaster subsequently received a letter from Her Majesty's Chief Inspector congratulating the school on being accorded the ultimate distinction of "Outstanding Boarding School ". A certificate accompanied the letter as did permission to use the "Ofsted Outstanding" logo in all publications.
The Chief Inspector's letter included the passages, "Please accept my warmest congratulations on achieving this very high standard of practice. I do not underestimate the sheer amount of hard work, determination and collaboration it takes to achieve outstanding provider status. Please accept my sincere
congratulations once again and many thanks for all you are doing to raise standards across the sector and, in doing so, improve lives."
The scholarship season is now under way and our children have already achieved some significant successes, with major Academic, Music and Art scholarships won. Well done to all of them.
Things are already going very well this term on the games front. On the Boys' Hockey field, the 1st XI remain unbeaten. They have scored 23 goals and conceded only 3 in their seven matches played to date. Elsewhere, the Colts teams are enjoying good seasons along with the Mini Colts A who beat Millfield by 6 goals to 2.
The Junior Football season started well with the Colts teams achieving a clean sweep of victories over Warminster.
The school Swimming team beat Clayesmore by 187 points to 143; Port Regis hosted the North Dorset Cross-Country event in January and achieved some very promising results. Georgie finished in second place in the inter-girls, George won the minor boys race and Robbie finished third in the intermediate event. George went on to finish in third place at the Dorset Championships and will represent the County in the South West Championships later in the term.
We are pleased to announce that Oliver and Mark have been selected to represent England Prep Schools Rugby team following a series of trials. We wish them well and we also We look forward to the Rugby Sevens season which kicks off on March 3rd with the Port Regis Sevens.
Although snow hampered the beginning of the Netball season the girls have had a tremendous start to 2010. The U13As are unbeaten in all school matches and they enjoyed a 20-14 win over Millfield. The 1st team came 2nd at the Dumpton tournament and narrowly missed out to becoming the Bryanston champions by one goal to Millfield. The U12A’s have won the Farleigh Tournament as well as the one at Leweston, as did the U10A’s, and the U11’s continue to improve with every match. B, C and D team fixtures still feature heavily on the fixture card and the girls commitment and dedication make Port Regis very proud. Six girls have been selected to attend North Dorset Netball academies
On the Girls Hockey front, the U13s have won the County Championship (scoring 23 goals and conceding none) and four girls have been selected to play for the County.
We were thrilled too to learn that Sami has been selected to play for the U14 National Rounders squad. England Rounders has undergone much re-organisation over the winter and they no longer run an U13 team, so achieving an U14 place is commendable.
Very well done too to the gymnasts who won the "Best Overall School" title for the 10th year in a row
at the IAPS National Gymnastics competition (U10 to U13) as well as the Team Gold at the GISGA U9 competition. We are very proud of you, girls!
At the start of last term we were very pleased to learn that Ruth had won the 12-14 age group of the BBC Wildlife Magazine Poet of the Year Competition with her poem 'Sea-Slug'. This was published in the magazine and was read out on Radio 4. Well done, Ruth!
The instrumental and theory Music exam results last term were extremely pleasing, with 30 Distinctions or Merits amongst the 42 passes.
The children continue to enjoy the new tree-house complex they are having great fun trying out all its walk-ways, slides, swings and ladders. Watch the video below for a taste of the action!
