Boarding
Our aim is to ensure all of our children are really well cared for in a warm and cosy home-from-home environment. We do our very best to ensure that each child thrives, feels safe and secure, learns to live with and respect others ...... and, very importantly too, has fun!
Boarding is a wonderful experience, and everyone involved in your care is committed to making sure you get the very best out of your time at Port Regis.
Anyone can board from the age of 7 up to 13 and the children are divided into 5 houses relevant to their age and gender. You will be accommodated in dormitories which have between 3 and 11 children in them. Each term everyone completes a dorm request form and we guarantee that at least one of your friends on the list will be in the same dorm with you. Very often it is a lot more than one!
Everyone (including staff!!) is encouraged to bring in items such as photos, posters and duvet covers and also as many teddies as they like. We want you to feel as much at home as possible.
There are several phone kiosks in each house, and if you are in Years 7 and 8, or live overseas, you may have a mobile phone. This will be looked after by your houseparents and you are able to use it to contact your close family in the evenings or, if they are overseas, when the time difference makes it sensible to do so.
The houseparents in your boarding house will liaise with your parents on a regular basis to let them know how you are getting on. They are available by phone (although not during the evenings until around 9.30pm as they are busy in the boarding house) or by e-mail. Please see specific house sites for details.
The Boarding Houses
There are five boarding houses, three of which (Stalbridge, Talbot and Huxley) are situated within the Mansion which is the main school building. The other two are separate purpose-built houses for senior boys and girls and are known as Prichard Hall and Grosvenor Hall respectively.
Each house has its own unique character, and the standard of care is very high in all of them. As well as the normal house routines there are always extra activities organised by the houseparents, such as talent shows, pool competitions, bingo evenings and themed nights.
The Staff
Mrs Lynn Carter is our Head of Boarding and also the Director of Pastoral Care here at Port Regis. Lynn is fully qualified nurse and also a mum. She has experience of boarding from both sides of the fence, as a boarding parent, as her daughter boarded for several years whilst at Port Regis, and also as a member of staff.
If you would like to know any more about boarding at Port Regis, please contact Mrs Carter on lcc@portregis.com or tel:01747 857886
The Boarding Houses are staffed by Houseparents, who live within the boarding houses and have responsibility for ensuring that they run smoothly and efficiently. Most are supported by Assistant Houseparents and/or House Assistants, and all enjoy the help of resident Gap Year Matrons. Male Gap Year students are also allocated to the boys’ boarding houses to provide additional help and support, especially in the evenings. All dormitories have senior pupils as Dorm Captains, and these provide invaluable assistance to the House staff as well as support to the other
children in the dorm.
