Weekends
With over 250 boarders here we can afford to offer flexi-boarding at weekends to all our families and still be assured of half the children on average being in. Full boarders are free to go out with weekly boarders by invitation, provided parents agree, but with large numbers staying in every weekend and a huge activity programme organised with plenty of staff on duty, weekends at Port Regis are enormous fun - so much so that the weekly boarders often opt to stay in!
There is Saturday morning school and a number of school matches in the afternoon. Once the children have fulfilled their commitments, which might also include acting in a play on the Saturday evening, they are free to go out. Families particularly welcome the fact that children need not be back in school until 8.30 on Monday morning. Services are conducted every Sunday at the Motcombe Village Church or in the School.
The weekend activity programme is designed, with input from the children, by the Senior Master, the Head of Boarding, our several Gap Year students and the weekend duty staff. Often there is a theme: Murder, Mystery; Batman and Robin; Pirates; Cowboys and Indians; Hollywood and the Movies; Winter Olympics (a favourite in the Summer Term!) and many more. There are also regular Treasure Hunts, Talent Shows, Discos, Videos, Den-Building in the Woods competitions; Stories round the Campfire, and the like, as well as trips to the cinema, ice-rink and so on. Boarding was never like this in my day!
