Currently English is taught by class teachers in Years 3, 4 and 5, and by subject specialists in Years 6, 7 and 8. There are three specialist English classrooms, and a well-stocked library. There are excellent IT facilities within the school.

The school follows the Common Entrance and Common Scholarship syllabi.

The ideal applicant will be an outstanding English specialist with a teaching qualification, able to stimulate and inspire children of different ability levels. Experience in contemporary use of IT in English would be an advantage.

    • Work co-operatively with other team members in the department on planning, organising the curriculum and departmental events and issues.
    • Refer to the programmes of study and schemes of work that are in place and assist in their development as appropriate. Plan individual lessons appropriate to the needs, interests, experience and existing knowledge of the pupils in the classes taught.
    • Liaise with Lower School staff, ESU staff and EAL staff as appropriate.
    • Mark and assess pupils’ work effectively and record accurately their development, progress and attainment.
    • Adhere to the school’s policies as contained in the Staff Handbook.
    • Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment.
    • Undertake INSET as required.

    Additional Duties

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the wider life of the school, as a Tutor, Form Teacher or Assistant Form Teacher, and in one or more areas of extra-curricular activity.  An ability to assist as a Games Coach is desirable.
