Patrick Balfour was born in Scotland and educated at Shrewsbury and Pembroke College, Cambridge where he read Law. He was a practising solicitor specialising in corporate and commercial work until his retirement as a partner in Slaughter and May in 2001. He is the Senior Independent Director of Interserve plc. He is married with three sons, the youngest of whom was educated at PR. He became a Governor at the end of 2002 and is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.
