    Pre-Prep Physical Education

    Reception

    Ball skills/spatial awareness

    • Basic running, hopping, skipping techniques - chasing and dodging
    • Individual and group space
    • Changing direction with the use of cones and other games equipment
    • Catching, movement, evasive running, invasion games
    • To introduce the children to a mini athletics arena. Developing all children into the intermediate phase of jumping and running.

    Swimming

    • water-confidence,
    • face in water,
    • submerging,
    • safe water entry,
    • basic front and back strokes,
    • stroke improvement,
    • treading water,
    • use of woggles and floats

    Gymnastics

    • flexibility and strength work,
    • rolling and rocking,
    • trampoline/rebound,
    • coordination (skipping, balls, balancing),
    • vaulting,
    • rings and bars,
    • sequences,
    • floor work,
    • balancing.
    • Pre-prep gymnastics display.

    Year 1

    Ball skills/spatial awareness

    • To develop the core movements using the hands to send, receive or travelling with an object of different shape and size. Develop the basic principles of sending and receiving objects of different size and shape dependant on ability.
    • Throwing and rolling to others - competitive games in pairs or threes.
    • Receiving objects from themselves, others and other objects i.e. walls - of different size and shape dependant on ability.
    • Combining these ball skills into small game type situation which they learn to monitor themselves with rules.

    Swimming

    • Safe entry and exit from swimming pool
    • Undertake water confidence exercises including floating and submerging
    • Introduction to front crawl - body and head position, legs and arms pencil jump
    • Introduction to back stroke including body and head position, legs - supine to prone roll (forward), back stroke progression - full stroke, duck dives, submerging

    Gymnastics

    • Flexibility & Strength work, record data, evaluation of strengths & weaknesses within the class Rolling & rocking - basic floor agility's / skills Trampoline / rebound - basic jumps, lines & co-ordination Co-ordination - skipping, balls, balancing (low beams & boxes) Vault work - contact spring board jumps (2 feet) jumps, landings
    • Floor linkage, patterns & sequences joined (MISGA Set Floor)
    • Rings & Bars - swinging, hanging, re-griping, climbing (rope)
    • Floor work - bunny hops, head / handstands, strength & tension work
    • Trampette / trampoline - turning jumps, high & low contact
    • Points - balancing on the floor, boxes, beams, with partners
    • Pre-prep gymnastics display.

    Year 2

    Ball skills/spatial awareness

    To develop more refined core movements when using the foot or hand to send and receive objects. To participate in small sided game related play - understanding rules and team play. To refine the child's core movements from the intermediate phase to the mature phase of development. To further develop the concept of space in team games, in individual situations and as pairs or groups. To inform their teachers and peers how to recognise the short term affects of exercise on their bodies.

    To refine the techniques of running and other movements of propulsion. Develop the concept of gaining and creating space.To develop how to close down someone or a group of people space. Changing directions at different speeds with the use of cones and other games equipment.

    Swimming

    • Front crawl, back stroke, introduction to breast stroke and, if applicable, butterfly.
    • Continued development of water-confidence for timid swimmers - safe water entry, submerging, retrieving items from the bottom of the pool in the shallow end.

    Gymnastics

    Extension of:

    • Flexibility & Strength work, record data, evaluation of strengths & weaknesses within the class Rolling & rocking - basic floor agility's / skills Trampoline / rebound - basic jumps, lines & co-ordination Co-ordination - skipping, balls, balancing (low beams & boxes) Vault work - contact spring board jumps (2 feet) jumps, landings
