    Philosophy of the Physical Education Department

    • To promote an understanding of how health and hygiene are related to physical exercise, and to encourage good habits concerning this.
    • To encourage a lasting interest in sport by helping the pupil gain a sense of achievement and develop positive attitudes towards themselves.
    • To promote confidence and self-esteem through achievement in physical activities.
    • To provide the opportunity for creative and imaginative work.
    • CricketTo encourage a hard-working approach to all tasks and activities, even in adverse situations.
    • To encourage co-operation between peers.
    • To encourage an appreciation and understanding of peers' strengths and weaknesses.
    • To develop observation skills.
    • To encourage a sense of responsibility, and a safety-conscious approach to PE.
    • To encourage the use of initiative and common sense.
    • To encourage a feeling of pride in appearance and performance.
    • To promote a healthy attitude towards competition, as appropriate to different situations.
    • To help pupils acquire an appreciation of the need for rules within sport, and a sense of fair play based on rules and the conventions of activities.
    • Develop positive sporting behaviour know how to conduct themselves in sporting competition and accept authority and support referees and umpires etc.
    • To develop the pupils' understanding of fitness; to make them aware of the importance of keeping fit, and to help improve their personal level of fitness.
    • To improve the pupils' understanding of hygiene, safety, and basic first aid.
    • To develop a hard-working, co-operative, and encouraging attitude by developing the pupils' social skills in activities involving cooperation and collaboration, responsibility, personal commitment, loyalty and team work.
    • To use ICT skills as an integral part of the PE curriculum.
