Developing a Balanced Physical Education Programme
- PE encompasses an extremely wide range of activities and it is impossible to include everything in a programme.
- If there is to be quality in what pupils learn, activities need to be selected carefully.
- The main division of activities has always been between games and individual performance/aesthetic activities. It is important that our curriculum reflects both aspects.
- A pupil's physical education should be a complete experience and so the non-competitive aspect must not be under-valued.
- All movement is performed as an end in itself and not as an exercise in gaining victory or experiencing defeat.
Areas of Activity
- Games activities.
- Gymnastic/movement activities.
- Swimming activities and water safety.
- Athletic activities.
