Trips and Events
During Expeditions Week in June (Summer term), about 35 pupils from Years 6, 7 and 8 are taken on a French Trip usually to either Normandy or Brittany. We stay in special school holiday centres and follow a full and fascinating programme that benefits the children linguistically, culturally and socially.
We have one theatrical event per year. This may take the form of a visiting theatre company, or else we will take children out to the theatre, usually in Yeovil or Salisbury.
In the Spring term, we celebrate MFL day. This may involve lessons in another language entirely (Portuguese and Italian most recently), and may involve cooking, playing boules, searching for treasure, answering quizzes and the like, all in French or Spanish. Every second year, this focus moves to the evening. The MFL soiree involves almost all the language students in the school, either singing, dancing, or performing a sketch. Parents are invited, and cheese and wine is served afterwards.
Children in the A and B forms are invited once a year to a French or Spanish table in the dining hall. All the MFL teachers are on hand to encourage them to speak French or Spanish at the table, and delicious food is served.
