The Library's Fiction / Non-Fiction Books
You can find out all you need to know about fiction and non-fiction books in the library on the following pages; from how to take a book out and return it, to how books are organised within the library, helping you find the book you want to read more easily!
Fiction
You have heard it before – reading is good for you – so read, read, read! There are over five thousand fiction titles to choose from within the Port Regis Library. Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by the author’s surname. All Fiction books have blue stickers on them. Some have an extra sticker on them to help guide your choice:
-
YA for Young Adult books - A and B forms only
-
Red for confident readers
-
Blue for solo readers
-
Green for younger readers
-
Silver for ESU pupils
-
Purple for EAL pupils

How do I take out a book?

Not sure which book to borrow?
Look at some of the reviews and lists in the Library.
- Think of the name of an author you have enjoyed and see if there are any more books by that author.
- Ask your friends.
- Ask the Librarian or your English teacher.
- Find a cover which appeals to you. Read the blurb and take a chance!
- HAPPY READING!
Non-Fiction
The Library also has a wide variety of non-fiction books. There are books to help you with your schoolwork – geography, history, science, classics, art, music and so on. There are general interest books to help you widen your general knowledge, and books on sports and hobbies such as football, netball, swimming, fashion and looking after pets. We have 5,000 books to choose from.
If a book has a yellow label and a number on the spine, it is a non-fiction or information book. These are shelved in separate bookcases from the fiction books.
Information books are grouped according to their subject, so that books on the same topic are housed together with the same number on the spine. We use the Dewey system of classification.
There are reference books, such as dictionaries and atlases with reference stickers on them. You are not allowed to remove these from the Library.
There are computers for Encarta and Britannica online that you are welcome to use. There are instructions beside the computers to help you use them. |
