Assessment
Internal
In September all children undergo standardised testing in English and Mathematics. If there is a significant discrepancy between any of the sub tests on the Cognitive Abilities Tests (CAT) or evidence of poor performance in either reading or spelling, further investigation is carried out in the ESU. This is also recommended if there are any concerns from tutors, teachers or parents.Â
The ESU assessment uses a variety of standardised tests to provide a learning profile for each child. This provides useful diagnostic information that can highlight a specific learning difficulty.
These tests are free of charge and the results will be discussed with tutors and parents.

Parents can be supplied with the names of Educational Psychologists who are able to undertake a full Educational Psychologist Assessment and Report. This can be arranged within school or parents may opt to consult a different psychologist if they so wish. The reports are sent to parents and, with their permission to the Headmaster who copies them to the Head of the ESU and to tutors. These reports are detailed and helpful, and can provide the basis for granting exam concessions, if appropriate.
The cost of these Assessments is borne by parents.
