Pupils looked at examples of African masks and then designed their own. They modelled the face as a solid shape and then hollowed it out from behind when the clay had dried out a little. Once fired, the masks were painted and raffia, beads and shells were added for increased decorative effect.
Figures -
Pupils in E form have been experimenting with figures and faces. They looked through magazines and cut out faces and figures before experimenting with them to make ‘consequence’ style images – a head from here a mouth from there a body from somewhere else etc. They then used this as a starting point to draw quirky figures using a range of media.
