Scholarships & Awards at Port Regis
Port Regis Scholarships are awarded annually for children who show exceptionally high standards of ability. We currently offer Academic, All-Rounder, Music, Sport and Gymnastic Scholarships. Your child needs to be aged 7 and under 12 years of age on 1 September 2011.
Upcoming Scholarship Assessment Days
- Gymnastic assessment day will be held on Saturday 4 February 2012.
- Academic, Music, Sports and All-Rounder assessment day will be held on Saturday 3 March 2012.
If you have not yet visited the school, we would welcome a preliminary visit to make your acquaintance and to discuss any matters which might be relevant to your child’s application for a scholarship. You would also have the opportunity for a more leisurely tour of the school than will be possible on scholarship day. Please contact the Admissions Secretary to make an appointment.
Academic Assessments
There is no syllabus nor sample papers available and there is no necessity for coaching. No previous knowledge of French or Latin is required and there is no need to bring anything on the day. Various tests will be taken by each child to measure intelligence and academic aptitude. Friendly interviews will also help our decision making process. We would like to assure you that we will do everything we can to put the children at their ease throughout the day.
Please note that these scholarships are competitive and parents should not enter their children if they do not believe that they have a realistic chance of success. All-Rounder candidates should be competent academically and have at least one extra-curricular strength such as Sport, Music, Art, Technology or Drama.
The number of awards is determined by the calibre of the candidates. The financial value of any award for a successful candidate is generally decided on the basis of parental need, and parents will be asked to fill in a Means Test Form unless they have indicated that no financial assistance is required. We would expect Entrance Scholars to go on to win scholarships to Senior Schools in their final year here. Scholarships are renewed annually on the condition that pupils’ efforts are appropriate to their status as scholars. Please note that awards are “flat-rate” and do not increase with any rise in the fees.
