Frances da Cunha was educated at St Mary’s Ascot and studied medicine at the Middlesex Hospital, London University qualifying in 1981. Her initial career in general practice started in Covent Garden, moving into partnership in NW London. Whilst combining work in general practice and bringing up children, she developed her interest in teaching and training both medical students at UCL and the Royal Free, and doctors throughout north London. She gained a postgraduate certificate for teachers in Primary Care, and became a member of the institute for higher education and learning in 2003. Marriage to a former Port Regis parent (Martin Llewellyn) brought her and her 3 children to Somerset where she has moved into partnership in Street.  She continues to teach and train junior doctors in her practice and the Severn deanery for post graduate medicine, and is a college examiner for the Royal College of GPs.
