Art and PotterySUB MENU
Art is an important part of life at Port Regis from Year 8 down to the Pre-Prep. The children learn to draw, paint, make prints and work in three dimensions, thus gaining confidence with a wide range of media. A particular strength of ours is ceramics and children become familiar with slab and coil construction and clay modelling.
Subjects explored in recent years include:
- African masks
- Card sculpture
- Fish and sea creatures
- Flowers from the school grounds
- Local and world architecture
- Maritime art
- Oriental art
- Pop art
- Pueblo pottery
In recent years, Port Regis pupils have won Art scholarships to (in alphabetical order): Ampleforth, Bryanston, Canford, Charterhouse, Downside, King’s Canterbury, King's Ely, Marlborough, Millfield, Oundle, Sherborne, Sherborne Girls, St Edward’s Oxford, St Mary’s Shaftesbury, Stowe, Tonbridge and Wellington.
The Head of Department is Simon Latham, who has a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Oxford.
