'Reaching Reluctant Readers'

An important, practical and stimulating training day for librarians and teachers on reading reluctance and how to tackle it, packed with effective strategies and wonderful books for changing attitudes to reading. Delegates will return to school armed with • more understanding of the issues underlying reading reluctance • an array of successful methods for overcoming barriers to reading • new ideas for exciting children about books and reading • greater awareness of good books and ways to use them to foster enthusiasm There will be opportunities throughout to share concerns, ideas and good practice, and a valuable chance to explore recent publications for children and young people and to purchase books from Norfolk Children’s Book Centre. Centre, Norwich and is a former children’s librarian.
 
Anne Harding will lead the day. She is an independent trainer who specialises in children’s and young people’s reading and children’s and school libraries.
Marilyn Brocklehurst is the owner of Norfolk Children’s Book Centre, Norwich and is a former children’s librarian.

Travel arrangements

If you have not been to Port Regis before please click here for directions.

The allocated car parking for the conference is at the north of the campus.

If you are travelling from Gillingham, take the B3081 towards Shaftesbury but turn left at the Turnpike, signposted Motcombe before you reach Shaftesbury. The entrance to Port Regis is to be found on the right-hand side.

If you are travelling from the north, exit the A350 before Shaftesbury, taking the road on your right signed Motcombe. When you reach the roundabout in Motcombe turn right and Port Regis School will be found 400m on the left-hand side.

The nearest train station to Port Regis is Gillingham (Dorset). There will be a mini bus service to collect form the train arriving at 09.15 from Waterloo. If you require transport then please email kj@portregis.com


Cancellation Policy

Your booking can be cancelled in writing no later than 21 days before the course and we shall return your enrolment fee, minus £30 including administration charge per delegate. Thereafter, Port Regis regrets that no refund can be made. Port Regis will make every effort to provide the services as specified, but, if for any reasons beyond its control it fails to do so, neither Port Regis nor its directors or employees shall be liable for any resulting loss or damage. Port Regis reserves the right to amend/modify the programme without notice.
